International Forum on ICT and Education 2030

The International Forum on ICT and Education 2030 organized by UNESCO from 10 to 11 July, 2017 in Qingdao, the People's Republic of China, focuses on harnessing ICT to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 4 for Education 2030.

The Education 2030: Incheon Declaration and Framework for Action affirms the need to harness the power of ICT to reinforce education systems, to bolster knowledge dissemination, to widen information access, to advance quality and effective learning, and to ensure more effective service provision. The increasingly powerful capacity and affordability of ICT has enabled a rapid diffusion of digital devices and applications, even and especially in low-income countries.

The Qingdao Declaration, released during the International Conference on ICT and Post-2015 Education, makes recommendations for Member States to leverage ICT to achieve the Education 2030 agenda with political will, effective planning, and concerted resources for strong implementation. As most Member States have started to develop national Education 2030 agendas and to harness ICT to transform education, it is imperative to convene stakeholders again to review emerging digital innovations and existing best practices that could be leveraged at scale to advance progress towards SDG 4.

The Forum is co-organized by UNESCO and the Government of the People’s Republic of China, with support from the Municipal Government of Qingdao, and the Wei Dong Group of China. It will convene senior government officials, senior representatives of international organizations, executives of ICT companies, eminent researchers and practitioners.

Objectives

As a follow-up to the International Conference on ICT and Post-2015 Education, the Forum seeks to reaffirm the commitments made in the Qingdao Declaration, and reinforce the inter-sectoral multi-stakeholder platform fostered during the 2015 Qingdao Conference through deepening North-South knowledge sharing, designing cooperation strategies, and outlining action plans on scaling up digital innovations and best practices towards Education 2030. To this effect, concrete proposals on a global action network and pilot projects for leveraging ICT to achieve Education 2030 will be presented and discussed.

The objectives of the Forum are to:

  • Share national policies and programmes that aim to capture digital innovations to accelerate the achievement of SDG 4 – Education 2030
  • Explore the digital innovations and best practices that could be scaled up to enable new school models and transform the education provision
  • Formulate partnerships and develop action plans around flagship projects on leveraging ICT to take forward SDG 4 – Education 2030

Priority for this event will be given to UNESCO Member States and partner organizations, invited experts and special guests. If you would like to attend, please complete the registration form. Registrations will be reviewed on a first come, first serve basis.
