Tie-dyed Silk Jacket

Northern dynasties, 4-6th centuries

L: 72cm, W: 192cm

 

Short silk jacket has centred fornts to be slightly overlapped, 44.5cm trumper-shaped sleeved, two fastening ribbons, red and brown. A peppered pattern of yellow dots is achieved by tie-dye technique popular during the Northern Liang. The dots are 1cm being 1.4cm apart. Female costumes extant from the Northern dynasties in such good condition are rare. Similar blouses are seen in Kuche grottos.
