Special event on the "Role of Women in the Silk Roads"

In line with International Women's Day, UNESCO, in partnership with permanent Delegations of Sultanate of Oman, Turkey, Islamic Republic of Iran, and Republic of Tajikistan to UNESCO, will organise an event on Wednesday 3 April at UNESCO HQ in Paris from 15:00, to highlight the role of women in the Silk Roads and the necessity of empowering women for protecting and promoting Silk Roads common heritage.

Women of the Silk Road”, a film directed by the Iranian actress and filmmaker Yassamin Maleknasr will be screened on 3 April at UNESCO HQ in Paris. This film depicts the lives of four women living in rural and urban areas in four different countries along the Silk Roads: Iran, Oman, Tajikistan, and Turkey.

The director of the film will exchange with the public about the film.

Following the film screening, a Roundtable will be held to discuss the “Role of women in the transmission of Silk Roads shared heritage” in various societies. Additionally to the filmmaker Yassamin Maleknasr, the roundtable will bring together other experts from different countries and backgrounds, including Ms Bibi Russell (UNESCO Artist for Peace), Mr İlber Ortaylı (Professor of History at Galatasaray University - Istanbul and Bilkent University - Ankara, former Director of Topkapi Palace).
