‘Life Along the Silk Road: 13 Stories during the Great Era’ Exhibition, Hangzhou China
From June 22 to September 1, the China National Silk Museum in Hangzhou will hold the exhibition ‘Life along the Silk Road: 13 Stories during the Great Era’, organized in cooperation with a number of institutions including the State Hermitage Museum, Russia, the Institute of Archaeology of Xinjiang, and Dunhuang Research Academy.
The ancient Silk Road was a vital trade route and cultural bridge between the East and the West, connecting China to many other parts of the world. Through the accounts of 13 individuals from its history, the exhibition tells a comprehensive story of the Silk Roads including the Steppe Silk Road, the Oasis Silk Road and the Maritime Silk Road. It provides both an overview of people’s daily lives on these routes as well as explores the history of the cultural exchanges between East and West that took place along them.
In conjunction with this exhibition, a two-day forum will be held from June 22 -23, exploring topics and stories relating to the Oasis and Steppe Silk Roads, the Maritime Silk Road and the Silk Road in China. The forum will bring together around 25 experts from institutions all over the world who have previously curated or worked on exhibitions relating to the Silk Roads.
