International Symposium on ‘Scientific and Cultural Exchanges along the Silk Roads’
Friday 18 November, 09h30 – 12h30 (CET, GMT +1)
UNESCO Headquarters in Paris and online via Zoom

An International Symposium on ‘Scientific and Cultural Exchanges along the Silk Roads’ will be held on November 18, at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris and online. This event is part of ‘Philosophy along the Silk Roads – World Philosophy Day Parallel Sessions’ marking the World Philosophy Day 2022

The Symposium will be opened by the Assistant Director-General of the UNESCO Social and Human Sciences Sector, Ms Gabriela Ramos and the Vice-Minister of Education of the People’s Republic of China. The event will gather the 12 grantees of the first edition of the Silk Roads Youth Research Grant and renowned international academics who participated in the implementation of this initiative first launched by UNESCO in 2020 in partnership with the government of the People’s Republic of China.

So far, through two editions, the research grant has cultivated a growing community of young scholars under 35 whose work focusses on the shared heritage of the Silk Roads. In total more than 1,500 submissions from 95 countries around the world have been received. The Symposium has been organised with a view to assess the impact on scientific research and collaboration of the first two years of this exciting initiative.

Awardees will have the opportunity to present their research findings as well as share their experiences undertaking research as part of the inaugural edition of the research grant. Discussions will also focus on the implementation of future editions of this initiative as well as its contribution to scientific dialogue and exchange in the post Covid-19 global context.

This Symposium will be followed at 15:00 by a roundtable event on ‘Philosophical dialogue between the East and the West along the Silk Roads’.

The Symposium will be open to members of the general public who may participate as audience members in-person at UNESCO HQ in Paris by filling this form or online by via the following ZOOM link
