The Expert Meeting on the Development of an Interactive Atlas of Cultural Interactions along the Silk Roads will be held in Beijing, China, on the 31st of May and the 1st of June. Academics and experts from 20 Member States will discuss specific topics and entry points such as science, technology and know-how; pharmacology and medicine; costumes and clothing; religion and spirituality; mythology and fantasy; languages and literature; arts and music; rituals and celebrations; food and gastronomy, etc.

In opening a new chapter of the Silk Roads Online Platform, UNESCO is planning the development of an Interactive Atlas of Cultural Interactions along the Silk Roads, building on the studies undertaken on the Silk Roads legacies and using the potential of information and communication technologies (ICTs). It will illustrate the historical and geographical imprints of the Silk Roads, as well as the various pathways and networks developed to facilitate the exchanges of goods, instruments, ideas, spiritualties and knowledge along these historic routes of dialogue. The Atlas will also provide key information highlighting the mutual influences of cultures and peoples along the Silk Roads and the common tangible and intangible heritage that they have produced together throughout history.

The meeting will be organized in collaboration and with the support of the Silk Road Online Platform’s partner, China World Peace Foundation.
