The UNESCO Silk Roads programme is pleased to announce the publication of the 5th edition of the photo album Youth Lens on the Silk Roads: Best Photos from the International Silk Roads Photo Contest

The album showcases the winning images from each of the age categories of the fifth edition of the International photo contest Youth Eyes on the Silk Roads that was held in 2023, along with a selection of 66 of the most outstanding submissions, as chosen by the International Selection Committee. The album also includes reflections from the featured young photographers on the shared heritage of the Silk Roads. The publication follows the winners' announcement, which took place in Beijing, China, on the occasion of the Peace Garden Peace Festival, in partnership with the Beijing International Peace Culture Foundation

The Youth Eyes on the Silk Roads photo contest is held annually and is open to two age categories: 14-17 years and 18-25 years. After the submission process, the Selection Committee reviews the entries, selects the winners in each category, and compiles a shortlist of exceptional photographs that best reflect the contest’s spirit.

The fifth edition of the contest focused on the theme of "Architecture, Monuments and Urbanism", inviting young participants to explore how the built environment along the Silk Roads reflects cultural heritage, historical influences, and the creative expressions emerging from centuries of intercultural exchange. Through their photographs, contestants documented a diverse array of architectural styles, historical landmarks, and urban landscapes, underscoring the interconnectedness of these sites and the shared heritage they embody. Their images illustrate how both ancient structures and contemporary metropolitan spaces along the Silk Roads continue to tell a story of creativity, resilience, and cultural dialogue.
