Music in Mosul, more than just a tune
In June 2014, the music died in Mosul. It was then that violent extremists laid claim to the city on the banks of the Tigris, a city known for its deep and diverse culture life. Music was banned.
As part of its flagship initiative to Revive the Spirit of Mosul through heritage, cultural life and education, UNESCO is in the early stages of implementing a programme to Revive the Musical Traditions of Mosul.
