UNESCO’s regional office in Rabat, in partnership with Canal France International, the French Embassy in Tunis, the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Mediapart undertakes investigative journalism training courses for journalists from Algeria, Morocco, Mauritania and Tunisia to be held in Tunis from December 2013 to March 2014.

The twelve selected journalists will participate in the training programme held under the general theme “investigative journalism, corruption, transparency and right to information” with the aim to produce and publish by the end of the training their own investigative reports.

The programme will explore the methodology as well as cases on investigative journalism based on the existing resources such as "UNESCO’s Story-based inquiry: a manual for investigative journalists" and the "Global investigative journalism casebook".

The first four-day session will be dedicated to the function of journalists within the public debate, the reminder of the basic rules specificities of investigative journalism, risks, protection of the journalist, their rights and duties as defined by international conventions and texts as well as to the concept of public interest.
