Alina Orrico, a.orrico@unesco.orgThe photo exhibition "San José Intercultural" will be inaugurated in San José, Costa Rica, on 25 February 2017. Through this initiative, UNESCO seeks to create a space for the promotion of intercultural dialogue among the inhabitants of San José. The exhibition seeks to reinforce the image of Costa Rican plurality and to present the diverse and inclusive side of the city. Photographic portraits tell the stories of the different social groups that live in the city.
The idea is to create a link between creativity, cultural heritage, diversities that exist in Costa Rica, and the cultural mix that exponentially enriches the country's international projection.
This cultural project seeks to build a more tolerant Costa Rican society with a greater awareness of its diversity. The main objective is to promote social and industrial development in Costa Rica through cooperation with the creative sector, and through the creation of networks of cooperation between civil society organizations and citizens working for the urban, cultural, environmental and social improvement of San José.
The populations present in the photo exhibition are: Afro-descendants, indigenous people, migrants and refugees, LGTBI persons and people with disabilities.
