Boosting economies through culture, providing room for cultural events in urban centres and promoting the diversity of cultural expressions; these are some of the topics to be discussed during the International Seminar on Culture and Development, which will take place in the city of Rio de Janeiro, at Cine Odeon, from 21 to 23 September 2015.
The event is a partnership between the Ministry of Culture and UNESCO. It will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the adoption of the Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions and the 70th anniversary of UNESCO. The Minister of Culture Juca Ferreira, and the Director-General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova, will be at the seminar’s opening ceremony on September 21 at 7pm.
The Seminar is open to the public through pre-registration. It will feature eight discussion tables: The Digital Culture and Environment; Cultural Diversity and the Economy of Culture; Traditional Knowledge and Development; Audiovisual Cultural Diversity; Cultural Diversity, Communication and Social Participation; Cultural Diversity and Education; Cultural Diversity, Heritage and Memory; and Culture and Cities. Among the speakers there are renowned names of national and international experts. The tables will be mediated by the Secretaries of the Ministry of Culture in Brazil.
