The “First Central American Meeting on Biosphere Reserves” will take place in the Municipality of Copán Ruinas, department of Copán, in the Trifinio Fraternidad Biosphere Reserve, Honduras. National MAB committees and focal points, biosphere reserve managers and representatives of local communities from Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama will attend.

The meeting aims to share experiences in the management of biosphere reserves and to strengthen partnerships in the region for the development and conservation of these reserves and improve governance structures of the MAB programme and local management committees and to identify involvement opportunities for local and indigenous communities, women and youth, as well as the necessary steps to follow.

The meeting will be led by UNESCO’s Man and the Biosphere Programme and the UNESCO cluster office in San José and the Central American Network of Committees and Biosphere Reserves in coordination with the National Institute of Forest Conservation and Development of Honduras (ICF).
