On 27 July 2011, in the framework of the Global Education Summit, UNESCO and Dubai Cares will orgaize a side event “Towards a Global Declaration on Connectivity for Education”, highlighting major elements of the forthcoming Global Declaration on Connectivity for Education. The event will bring together several key global actors that are working to advance connectivity for education:

  • Ms. Liesbet Steer - Director, The Education Commission
  • Ms. Sonia Jorge - Executive Director, Alliance for Affordable Internet
  • Mr. Alex Wong - Chief, Special Initiatives, and Focal point for the Giga Initiative, ITU
  • Mr. Sobhi Tawil - Director, UNESCO Division for The Future of Learning and Innovation (moderator)

Through their discussion, the session will explore how to leverage connectivity and technology to make education more inclusive, equitable and of higher quality. The discusission will also shed light of the need for creating a joint framework for engagement, advocacy, and collective coordinated action.

This side event will overview substantive elements of the Global Declaration on Connectivity for Education.   The Declaration, developed through a partnership between UNESCO and Dubai Cares and guided by a 22-person advisory group, will be launched at the December 2021 RewirEd Summit in Dubai.
