A research workshop on the relevance of secondary education for young people in Sub-Saharan Africa will be held in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, on 2 November 2016.

The aim is to discuss with young people what their perspective is on the relevance of secondary education.

This workshop is being organized by UNESCO Regional Office for Southern Africa’s Social and Human Sciences unit in partnership with the Ministry of Youth, Indigenization and Economic Empowerment and the Zimbabwe National Commission for UNESCO.

The workshop will also explore reasons for youth disengagement from education. It is expected that workshop participants will give recommendations on how to make education systems more responsive to the aspirations and needs of young people.

The research findings that will come out of the workshop will be used to inform the formulation of education policies in Sub-Saharan Africa, and UNESCO's future programming on Education.
