Medical electronics, signal and image processing, virtual reality, and haptic devices are among his research interests. Al-Naami has served as an associate editor for globally indexed journals. In 2000, he got his PhD from St. Petersburg Electrotechnical University, and from 2001 to 2003, he was a visiting researcher at Sussex University in the UK.
