Yvonne Matuturu, y.matuturu@unesco.orgSince the "2000th Manifesto" signed by former Nobel Peace Prize winners, UNESCO has made of young people its main target for promoting the culture of peace. As for Cameroon, a two-day event will bring together 1000 youth for a sporting march at the 20th May Reunification Place of Yaoundé and for a debate on the culture of Peace at the University of Yaoundé II. The national debate is organized around the theme “de-radicalization and culture of peace in face of threats of instability in Cameroon”.
The concept of this day was initiated by a network of NGOs that are active on the issue of peace among youth. Thus, with the UNESCO Yaoundé Regional Office support and with the patronage of the Ministry for Youth and Civic Education of Cameroon; The Pan-African Network of Youth for the Culture of Peace (PAYNCoP), Cameroonian section through the Children's Rights Cameroon (CRC), the Network of African Youth Organizations of the Leaders of the United Nations (ROJALNU-Cameroon) and the National Council of the Cameroon Youth (CNJC) took the joint initiative of the present campaign project.
In order to meet this common goal, the above partners agreed on a two-day celebration, including an informative debate on peace, an awareness sportive march and a media campaign to sensitize young Cameroonian on Peaceful ideals and intercultural coexistence.
As a result, we intend to raise awareness among the population, mobilize and build defenses of peace in the minds of young Cameroonians from all social strata as well as instill values of tolerance and justice.
