Black Lives Matter protests in major cities around the World in Summer 2020 followed the killing of George Floyd and other people of African descent by US law enforcement officers. The United Nations Resolution on the promotion and protection of the human rights and fundamental freedoms of Africans and of people of African descent against excessive use of force and other human rights violations by law enforcement officers, acknowledges police brutality against people of African descent to be an unacceptable breach of universal human rights.
