Introduction
Yira Vargas is a clinical psychologist and educator from the Dominican Republic. She has been working in Dominican academia since 2004 and has extensive experience promoting the inclusion of people with disabilities in Dominican society. She has also worked in violence prevention in schools. She is currently an International Family and Community Studies doctoral Student at Clemson University. She also has a Master’s Degree in Education Management and an undergraduate degree in Clinical Psychology.
She was the recipient of a New York University pre-doctoral fellowship in 2004, and has been recognized by Altice Hispaniola and Orange Foundation for her work towards bettering the lives of people with autism in the Dominican Republic. Her work has also received accolades from Vidas Solidarias Foundation for her contributions to professional training in psychology, and by the 1st Psychiatric Child and Adolescent Residency for her humane and academic contributions to their professional training.
She is the current Chair of UNIBE’s UNESCO Chair on Inclusion of people with Disabilities, Chair of the Psychology Department which hosts undergraduate and graduate programs, as well as the Director of UNIBE´s Center for Behavior Studies and Intervention (CESIC). She Lives in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
