Sridhar Venkatapuram is a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in Global Health and Philosophy, based at the King’s Global Health Institute. He serves as the Deputy Director and Director of Global Health Education and Training. His research focuses on improving the understanding and realization of health equity and justice, and he is recognized for his work in establishing the field of 'health justice' philosophy. Venkatapuram has been involved in public/global health ethics for over 25 years, and has worked with organizations such as Human Rights Watch, Population Council, and the World Health Organization.
He has received numerous awards and fellowships, including Wellcome Trust Research and Senior Research Fellowships, and has been elected to prestigious organizations such as the RSA and the Faculty of Public Health. Venkatapuram has a multidisciplinary academic background, with studies in International Relations, History, Public Health, Sociology, and Political Philosophy. His doctoral dissertation, which argued for a moral/human right to 'the capability to be healthy', was examined and passed without corrections by Nobel laureate Amartya Sen. This dissertation formed the basis of his first book, "Health Justice: An argument from the capabilities approach". His latest book is a co-edited collection of scholarship on the philosophy of public health.
