I am an Assistant Professor at the Department of Economics, University of Virginia. I completed a PhD in Economics from the London School of Economics. Before the PhD, I worked as a Pakistan Administrative Services civil servant. My research focuses on topics in Development Economics, Organisational Economics and Political Economy. Shan Aman-Rana is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at University of Virginia. She received a PhD, MRes and MSc in Economics at the London School of Economics (LSE) in 2019, 2014 and 2011 respectively. Her research agenda focuses on the determinants of state capacity formation, with a specific focus on organizational economics of the state. She is also interested in questions of inequality, particularly gender inequality. Her work has been funded by JPAL-CVI, International Growth Center (IGC), STICERD, and IDEAS, Pakistan. She is affiliated with Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE), Democracy initiative, Corruption Lab for Ethics, Accountability, and the Rule of Law (CLEAR), Centre for Economic Research Pakistan (CERP), Bissau Economics Lab (BELAB) and International Growth Centre (IGC). Before the PhD, she worked as a Pakistan Administrative Services bureaucrat.
