Paola Puma has more than twenty years of experience in higher education, research management, and consultancy in development of policies for sustainable CH Education and dissemination, including the knowledge systems of sustainable built environment in the historical cities, and academic positions.
Dr. Puma is a Professor of Representation and survey of architecture and environment at Faculty of Architecture, University of Florence. She is member of the scientific board of TekneHub industrial research laboratory High Technology Network, joint agency of University of Ferrara – Technopole and Region Emilia-Romagna, and member of the Board of experts for the Czech Science Foundation GACR (the institution in the Czech Republic which provides public funding for basic research projects).
Dr. Puma is an expert of policies for the sustainable refurbishment of the historical building heritage, and strategies interventions to conciliate memory of places and sustainable enhancement of historical settlements, both cities as well as small towns and villages, using the methodology of Identity Survey for the development of responsive urban design. Her areas of competency include strategy planning, policy development, remote sensing systems for management of the smart cities (topography, laser scanning, terrestrial and aerial photogrammetry by drones, data visualization). In this field she has been responsible of many research projects at international, national, regional level. Last proposed projects: National Italian Research Projects 2020, “acCUREacy - Hidden Heritage to be revealed. Care, conservation and enhancement of unknown and lost Cultural Heritage through advanced digital documentation and data capturing”, “Virtual Heritage Environments for Smart Education”. She devwloped a research proposal for EU in 2019 and it is entitled: COST ACTION “Reconnecting People&Place: fostering architecture's immaterial resilience“. Other area of expertise includes executive capacity building and coaching training on strategic planning and leadership and academic activities; develop vision, mission, strategic goals and action plan of programmes and coordination.
She has authored more than 100 publications (books, articles, scientific multimedia) and has been invited speaker to more than 100 international and regional conferences, seminars, workshops and training programs.
She is member of the Reviewer Board of the MDPI journal Sustanaibility, and many scientific committees of international and regional conferences.
Dr. Puma has been visiting professor at Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski University in Varsaw- Poland, and Tblisi State Academy of arts in Tbilisi- Georgia, National University of Architecture and Construction, Yerevan- Armenia.
She currently is teaching at University of Florence.
