Introduction
Dr Matias Margulis is Assistant Professor in the School of Public Policy and Global Affairs and Faculty of Land and Food Systems at the University of British Columbia. His research and teaching interests are are interdisciplinary and cut across the fields of global development, human rights, international law and global food politics. Dr Margulis' work has been published in journals such as Review of International Political Economy, Global Governance, World Trade Review, Globalizations, Geopolitics and his edited books include The Global Political Economy of Raúl Prebisch (Routledge 2017) and Land Grabbing and Global Governance (Routledge 2014, edited with Nora McKeon and Saturnino Borras, Jr.).
In addition to his academic research, Dr Margulis has extensive professional experience in the field of international policymaking. He is a former Canadian represenative to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and World Trade Organization (WTO). He has also advised the UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food and the Scottish Parliament and consulted for international NGOs and the Brookings Institution.
