Introduction
My expertise lies in the interlinking fields of science, public health and environmental communications and social change with over 20 years experience of research and teaching at Brunel University London and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Currently I am leading research and knowledge transfer in the emerging global issue of plastics pollution (UK. Nigeria, Indonesia, Vietnam). I am a member of high- level academic panels (UKRI /EPSRC; UKRI/NERC) and provided scientific advice to inform European Commission policy on the regulation of microplastics, leading on media and communications aspects (2018-19, SAPEA. 'Microplastics in Nature and Society'). I contributed to the DEFRA evidence review on UK marine pollution policy and the UN Environment Program International Resource Panel on marine plastic litter (commissioned by the Government of Japan to support delivery of the G20 Osaka Blue Vision). I regularly share my research with industry at key events (Plastics Europe, British Plastics Federation).
