Introduction
Filiz Polat is a Professor of Inclusive Education at Nazarbayev University, Graduate School of Education (NUGSE), Kazakhstan. Before joining NUGSE in August 2018, she held positions at the University of Manchester (UK); University of Bristol (UK); University of Hong Kong (Hong Kong SAR, China); and, Istanbul Medipol University (Turkey). Filiz started her career as a school psychological counselor in Ankara, Turkey. She received her first postgraduate degree (MSc) from Middle East Technical University (METU), Turkey which followed with degrees received from the University of Manchester (MEd & Ph.D.), Egland. She has been researching and teaching in the field of inclusive education for more than 20 years.

Filiz Polat, Ph.D.
Filiz Polat is Professor in Inclusive Education at Nazarbayev University, Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan. She received her BSc and MSc in Guidance and Psychological Counselling from Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey and MEd and PhD in Special and Inclusive Education from University of Manchester, UK. She was a Research Fellow at University of Manchester. She then worked at the University of Bristol, UK, as Senior Lecturer and Program Director of MEd in Inclusive Education. She then joined University of Hong Kong where she was program coordinator of MEd in Inclusive and Special Education as well as Director of Centre for Advancement of Inclusive and Special Education (CAISE). Her research interests include inclusion in education, inclusion in society and social justice, children rights education, social and emotional well-being, school counselling and transitions. At Nazarbayev University, she contributes to the MEd, MSc and PhD level courses and supervision of graduate students. She has over 70 publications including academic and professional manuscripts, chapters in edited books, conference proceedings, book reviews and multimedia products; She has made more than 90 presentations conducted at international and national conferences, 26 invited seminars, keynotes, plenary talks at universities worldwide. She has a wide range of international collaborators including colleagues based in UK, Hong Kong, Tanzania and Turkey. Her successful grant applications have included funding from Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), Department for International Development (DfID- UK), Department of Education and Skills (DfES-UK), Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA-UK), Learning and Skills Council (LSC-UK), Welsh Assembly Government (UK), Institute of Financial Studies (IFS-UK), UNICEF Commission for Hong Kong, and Nuffield Foundation (UK). She serves on editorial board of Teacher Education and Special Education, Journal of Education for Life, Internat’onal Journal of School’ng\ the Journal of the International Association of Special Education and act as a referee for number of journals including International Journal of Inclusive Education, International Journal of Educational Development, Creative Education, British Journal of Special Education, Journal of Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties. She acted as grant reviewer for number of funding institutions including Economic and Social research Council (ESRC-UK), Wellcome Trust (UK), Austrian Science Foundation ((Der Wissensehaftsfonds - FWF) and the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, Northern Italy (Provincia Autonoma Di Bolzano − Alto Adige / Autonome Provinz Bozen − SÜDTIROL).
