Carlo Perrotta is Associate Professor in Digital Education at the Melbourne Graduate School of Education. He is interested in the sociological and psychological ramifications of digital technology in education. His current research focuses on data-driven educational processes, digitally automated pedagogies and AI-driven education. Carlo held research posts at the University of Leeds, UK and the UCL-Institute of Education in London. Prior to Academia, he worked for Futurelab, a UK-based, non-for-profit ‘think-tank’ that explored the potential of digital technology in education.

My published research engages with a selection of critical issues related to digital technology in education. These include the social and political accountability of algorithms in education, automation and artificial intelligence, the ethical use of video games in schools and socio-material analyses of digital education. My research as PI and Co-I has been funded by leading international bodies such as the European Commission, the ESRC, the Society for Educational Studies, as well as private donors (e.g., Microsoft and Cisco Systems).
