Introduction
I enjoy the policy and industry-relevant research, focused on the development of ‘tools’ that citizens, policymakers and professional can use while at the same time not jeopardizing their scientific rigor.
Over the last 15 years, I have been an engineer, a researcher, a university professor, and a consultant in the real estate and planning. My experience spans three countries and over the years I have run around 30 small research partnership projects with industry partners and public institutions in the Netherlands and I am a Co-PI of an innovation project with a Luxembourg start-up.
Expert
My expertise includes applications of hedonic price methods, discrete choice methods, experimental game theory and various multi-criteria decision methods to housing, real estate, and urban issues with an emphasis on setting-up decision support tools by which end users can experience the full potential of models and available datasets.
Project wise, in Luxembourg, I have completed two projects that I believe will bring societal and economic value to society. First is the Luxembourg hedonic urban land price index, first of its kind on a national level in the world, to be used as a land policy tool. The second one is a study on the Luxembourg potential regarding brownfield redevelopment that should contribute to the better decision-making process in urban development strategies.
My most recent research relates to housing price and preference measurement and developing new housing concepts for an increasingly mobile world. These two areas of research are stimulated by two ongoing COST projects for the collaborative economy and public value capturing mechanisms in which I am a Management Committee member for Luxembourg.
