Beverley Milton-Edwards is Professor of Politics at Queen's University Belfast, Northern Ireland. She is regarded as one of the world's leading experts on violence, terrorism and security. Her research focuses on the Middle East and the challenges of political Islam and security sector governance in conflict and conflict transitions. She has been a visiting fellow at Brookings Doha Center, and Oxford University. She is known for having pioneered both scholarship and practice in the field of conflict management, including mediation and ceasefires. Beverley has worked as a special adviser to the European Union's High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy, as well as for the European Union Special Envoy to the Middle East Peace Process. She has also been commissioned by a number of government departments to provide her expert analysis. In the Middle East, she has worked as a mediator in securing ceasefires, ceasefire monitoring, verification activities, and formal track II Israeli-Palestinian negotiations. She is the author of articles such as The Blockade on Qatar: Conflict Management Failings (2020), and books including Contemporary Politics in the Middle East (2018), The Muslim Brotherhood: The Arab Spring and its future face (2016).
