Fellow at Bruegel, Brussels, and CASE - Center for Social and Economic Research in Warsaw, Visiting Professor at the Central European University in Vienna. First Deputy Minister of Finance of Poland (1989-1990) and a Member of the Monetary Policy Council of the National Bank of Poland (1998-2004). Involved in policy advising and research in 20+ countries of Central and Eastern Europe, the former Soviet Union, the Middle East and Africa under the UNDP, UNICEF, World Bank, IMF, EU, USAID, OECD, GIZ and OSI projects. Member of the Academia Europaea. Author of 300+ international publications.

The areas of my expertise include: inclusive and sustainable growth, poverty and inequality, monetary and fiscal policies, currency crises, global economic and financial governance, European integration, European Neighborhood Policy, political economy of policy reforms, interrelation between economic and political reforms, public administration, and business and investment climate. Geographically, I have been conducted policy research and provided policy advising related to the EU, Western Balkans, former Soviet Union, Middle East and Africa.
