Fajar B Hirawan is a senior researcher in the department of economics, Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS). Mr. Hirawan has worked with CSIS for more than 15 years. He was appointed head of the economics department in January 2022. Mr. Hirawan received a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Indonesia and a master’s degree in development studies from Sapienza University of Rome. He holds a PhD in economics from the University of Sydney.

Mr. Hirawan's research mainly focuses on improving economic capacity, encompassing strategic issues in development economics such as food security, international trade, digital economy, small and medium enterprises, and rural-urban poverty. In addition to research and teaching activities, he is active in public debate related to economic issues through seminars, workshops, papers and articles, and media interviews.
