Introduction
I am an Associate Professor at the University of Adelaide Law School, with research expertise in legal prohibitions of discrimination, the regulation of tertiary education, and workplace rights and protections. I have completed research funded by competitive grants and contracts for a range of Australian and international organizations, and have experience combining legal and regulatory analysis with empirical research including through qualitative and quantitative methodologies.
Expert
A Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy UK, I research the regulation of higher education, including the rights of students learning in the workplace. I was an author of an International Labour Organization (ILO) study on the equality rights of interns in 13 jurisdictions in 2018, in 2019 I was an organizer of both Australian and international (ILO) symposia considering the regulation of work experience and rights of participants, was an editor and contributor to a significant international analysis of the regulation of work experience, published jointly by Edward Elgar and the ILO in 2021, and have recently authored major reports on the role Australian universities are playing in regulating work experience and considering the how scholarships for work-integrated learning. I am eager to promote an international regulatory reform agenda regarding the regulation of internships.
I am also an expert on anti-discrimination law, and a member of the Australian Discrimination Law Experts Group (ADLEG). ADLEG's goal is to inform Australian discrimination and equality law and policy development by undertaking and disseminating research, and providing expert input to law reform processes. As a member of ADLEG, and individually, I am actively involved in promoting law reform to enhance equality and broader contributions toward equity.
