Sergio García Magariño holds a PhD in sociology with an international mention and is a specialist in education and social development. He currently works as a lecturer (associate professor) at the Public University of Navarra and researcher at its Institute for Advanced Social Research: I-Communitas. He is co-founder and director of the Institute for Global Knowledge, Governance and Development and associate researcher at the think tank Globernance, directed by Daniel Innerarity. He has been a visiting professor at the University of Essex (2012), University College of Dublin (Sep. 2021 - ), Cornell University (Jul.-Sep. 2022) and is a consulting professor at Nur University in Bolivia. His research interests include processes of violent radicalisation, mechanisms of good governance, collective security, social and economic development, and issues related to the sociology of science and religion. These are reflected in more than seventy academic articles and books. He is a regular contributor to written and audiovisual media, such as Actualidad RT, The Conversation, El Obrero, Periodista Digital, RTVE Navarra, Diario de Navarra, The Global World, Radio Onda Verde, Cope Pinares, Revista Cultural Entreletras, Amartanta.tv, gobernanza.es and BBC Argentina; he is also an occasional contributor to El País, Claves de Razón Práctica, Global Governance Forum, Diario de Córdoba, Diario de Ávila, Cadena Ser, ABC, TVE, RNE and Navarra Televisión. He has recently been selected as one of the 100 most outstanding speakers in Spain (new talents section) for 2020-2021 by the consulting firm Thinking Heads.
