I am director of Yale University's Interdisciplinary Center for Bioethics and a Senior Research Scientist in Political Science. My training is in law and philosophy. I was a healthcare business and regulatory attorney before becoming an academic. In my current position I research, teach and write about bioethics and law, addressing issues such as end-of-life care, assisted reproductive techniques, research in the newly-dead, research on post-mortem brains, and research on human subjects. For several years I edited the Policy and Politics column in the Hastings Center Report. I have recently also begun teaching and researching in the area of environmental ethics.
