Professor of International Relations, School of Government and International Affairs, Durham University. My research focuses on issues of international ethics and international order. I have a particular interest in military ethics and technological innovation, including the uses of drones and the potential for lethal autonomous weapons. I am also interested in the ethical challenges in world politics arising from the diversity of human ethical perspectives and practices.

Following a PhD at Warwick University (UK), I worked as a Lecturer in International Relations at Aberdeen University (UK), before moving to Durham University (UK), where I became Senior Lecturer and, since 2009, Professor of International Relations. I have published on issues relating to international order and international society in academic journals including European Journal of International Relations, Review of International Studies, and Geopolitics. I have published on issues of military ethics in Ethics & International Affairs and Global Policy. I am author of 3 books and editor or co-editor of 4 more across fields including Global Citizenship, the political thought of Hannah Arendt, Just War Theory, and the ethical challenges for international order arising from human ethical diversity.
