Hasrul Hanif is a lecturer (assistant professor) at Department of Politics and Government, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Indonesia. He has been firmly engaging with various academic & advocacy activities in the field of comparative democracy & development as well as politics of social citizenship & welfare. Currently, Hanif has also increased concerns on the political economy of natural resources, particularly the extractive sector, and politics of energy. He graduated from the undergraduate program of Department of Government, Gadjah Mada University. Funded by Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD)'s Programme for Master Studies (NOMA) Scholarship, he completed Master of Art (MA) on Human Right and Democracy in Southeast Asia (HARD-SEA), at Graduate Program of Political Science, Gadjah Mada University in collaboration with Department of Politics, Oslo University, Norway. He currently is joining PhD program at Department of Politics & International Relations, University of Sheffield, United Kingdom, funded by the scholarship of Indonesian Endowment Fund for Education.
