Introduction
Dr. Andrea Calderaro is the director of the Centre for Internet and Global Politics, a Senior Lecturer in International Relations at the Department of Politics and International Relations/School of Law and Politics, and a member of the Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security Analytics at Cardiff University. He holds his PhD in Social and Political Sciences from the European University Institute. His research and teaching centres on the Internet and International Affairs, with a particular focus on transnational governance of the cyber domain, cybersecurity, cyber capacity building, cyber diplomacy, the Digital divide, and the role of the EU in the global internet policy debate. He has conducted research and supported cyber capacity building initiatives in Africa, Asia, Middle East, Central America, and in EU institutions.

My research centres on transnational governance of the cyber domain, with a particular focus on cyber capacity building, cyber diplomacy, cybersecurity, the Digital divide, and the role of the EU in the global internet policy debate. In this context, I have conducted research and supported cyber capacity building initiatives in Africa, Asia, Middle East, Central America, and in EU institutions.
I regularly turns this scholarly relevant research into practice having supported initiatives led by the House of Lords, UK Cabinet, European Commission, EU Parliament, Italian Parliament, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (German Development Agency - GIZ), United Nations. I have served as a member of the Global Forum of Cyber Expertise (GFCE)' Research Committee, the "EU Cyber Capacity Building" Task Force (European Commission/EUISS), the UNESCO "Internet Universality Program" Advisory Board, the Global Internet Policy Observatory’s Advisory Group (European Commission), the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO)'s Advisory Board on Cybersecurity, and of the Civil Society Information Society Advisory Council Board at the OECD. I am also a co-Editor of the “Digital Technologies and Global Politics” Book Series at Rowman & Littlefield, an Associate Editor of the International Journal of E-Politics. His research includes publications into “Policy and Internet”, “Third World Quarterly”, “International Journal of E-Politics”, “Open Democracy”, and I appeared on Al Jazeera "Inside Story", BBC, BBC Radio, Rai News 24, The Verge, New York Times, Reuters, Deutsche Well.
Prior to joining Cardiff University, I was Lecturer at the University La Sapienza of Rome in “New Technologies and International Relations”, Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for Internet and Society at Humboldt University, Research Associate at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies/European University Institute, Visiting Fellow at the University of Oslo, and Visiting Fellow at the California Institute of Technology (CalTech)
