Introduction
Research Associate at the University of Bristol School of Sociology, Politics and International Studies, within EU-funded projects on human rights, migration and cultural diversity. I convene a research challenge on Bodies, Borders, Justice for the cross-faculty institute Migration Mobilities Bristol. My work is mainly driven by a will to unveil the institutional sources of racial and other inequalities, as well as to theorise legal and political action toward social justice.
Expert
I hold a PhD in Human Rights, Democracy and International Justice (University of Valencia), an MSc in Migration Studies (University of Applied Sciences and Arts Western Switzerland, Catholic University of Lille, University of Valencia) and a BA in International Studies and Modern Languages (Laval University). My doctoral research, supported by the Spanish Ministry of Education, examined the interplay between internationally recognised rights to education and non-discrimination, public policies and racism in the European context. From 2013 to 2017 I participated in the MULTIHURI project on human rights and cultural diversity (www.multihuri.com) led by the University of Valencia Human Rights Institute. In 2015 and 2016 I was a visiting academic at the University of Oxford Centre on Migration, Policy and Society and the University of Montreal Centre d’Études Ethniques des Universités Montréalaises.
Since 2017, as part of the EU-funded ETHOS project (ethos-europe.eu), I have conducted UK and comparative studies on the structural determinants of socioeconomic precarity; the political representation of minorities; the legal protection of the rights to housing, education and vote; and the discursive construction of justice in debates around Grenfell Tower, the education of Muslims and the commemoration of British history. My current project, PLURISPACE - Negotiating diversity in expanded European public spaces (http://www.sciencespo.fr/ceri/plurispace/), seeks to map out multiculturalist, interculturalist, transnationalist and cosmopolitan strategies to recognise cultural diversity. My work has been published in internationally renowned journals in the field of human rights and ethnic/migration studies.
