Introduction
Emmanuel is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, UK. He recently received his dual doctorate degrees from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow UK and the University of Naples, Federico II, Italy. He was a Marie-curie Early Stage Researcher with research topic in the area of Bio-geotechnical Engineering.
Emmanuel's background is in Agricultural and Environmental Engineering and his current research focus is in the development of microbial-based technologies for soil Improvement as low-carbon options for erosion mitigation, slope stabilisation and to delay the onset of shallow landslides.
Emmanuel has been an academic staff in the department of Agricultural and Environmental Engineering at the University of Agriculture, Makurdi - Nigeria since 2012, rising from Graduate Assistant to the rank of Lecturer I, and involved in teaching, research and community service. He is knowledgeable in Environmental Impacts Assessment and enthusiastic about global governance and sustainable development.
Emmanuel is active in research and research dissemination, with a growing research portfolio of publications, contributions to specialist research community, interdisciplinary research management, conference presentations as well as serving as peer reviewer for several top journals.
He has had previous experience in broadcasting (as TV/Radio presenter) and webcasting, having worked with the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA Yenagoa) and the Confluence Cable Network (CCN, Kogi State, Nigeria) as well as the University of Strathclyde Student internet radio 'Strathclyde Fusion'.
Expert
I have up to 8 years' experience in research, teaching and supervision in Universities in Nigeria, Italy and the United Kingdom. My bachelor and masters degrees are in Agricultural & Environmental Engineering respectively. And I hold a dual PhD degree in the area of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Structural, Geotechnical and Seismic Risk Engineering, from the Universities of Strathclyde, Glasgow, UK and the University of Naples, Federico II, Italy respectively.
My experience has been mainly in field and laboratory research, focused on the development of sustainable soil/ground improvement technologies in response to climate change and global warming. I have worked in multidisciplinary research groups aimed at developing novel innovative low carbon techniques for sustainable soil engineering applied to agriculture and geo-infrastructure, encompassing erosion control, slope stabilisation and shallow landslides.
I am interested in contributing to technical discussions and policy matters around SDGs that are related to land resources. I offer consultancy services in bioremediation strategies for contaminated lands, sustainable approaches for land reclamation and restoration especially lands degraded by gullies or threatened by desertification, as well as improvement of soil quality for agricultural production. I also make technical contributions to Environmental Impact Assessment projects.
Fields of expertise: Agriculture and rural development, Environmental policy / climate change, Infrastructure, Sustainable Development Goals, Water and sanitation
