Introduction
Hello! I am an urban planner by training, and presently a faculty member in the Department of Social Policy and Intervention at the University of Oxford. I conduct interdisciplinary research on the relationships between place and health, especially health disparities, and the role that place-based policies can improve health equity. My latest work focuses on relationships between individuals' neighborhood perceptions and health disparities, as well as the lasting legacies of historical events or policies. I am also engaged with using new technologies, like mobile apps and wearable sensors, and community-engaged methods in my research.
Expert
I have experience designing and conducting interdisciplinary research on the relationships between place and health, especially health disparities, and the role that place-based policies can improve health equity. I have previously studied community development efforts in the United States to improve neighborhood-level access to healthy food, including analyses at local, state, and national levels. My collaborations on place and health include research partnerships in Colombia, Sweden, UK, and the US, and participation in the "Our Voice" Citizen Science Initiative's global network of researchers.
I am an urban planner by training, and completed a PhD in City and Regional Planning at the University of Pennsylvania, and Masters and Bachelors degrees in Urban and Environmental Planning at the University of Virginia. Prior to joining the Department of Social Policy and Intervention at the University of Oxford in January 2019, I was a postdoctoral research fellow with the Stanford Prevention Research Center, a division of the Stanford University School of Medicine that specializes in behavioral research and interventions, including those at the community level.
