I have expertise in qualitative, quantitative and mixed method research and my research interests are in Health systems strengthening, Primary Health Care, Mental Health, Urban Health, Nutrition, Safer Motherhood Aspects of Health Care, Water and Sanitation and Disaster Risk Reduction. I am currently involved in 3 researches in Nepal, one as CoI and Postdoctoral fellow at the University of Sheffield and two as PI through a NGO I run in Nepal. Originally I am a development professional with over 20 years of experience in designing and implementing development projects in Nepal. I founded and currently lead a NGO (www.phasenepal.org) in Nepal which currently has over 150 staff with around 30 projects with annual fund raising of around £2 million from over 25 funding agencies. I have also received “The Chancellor’s Medal” from the University of Sheffield in 2016.
For My PhD I used qualitative case study approach to explore Community Participation in Primary Health Care in Nepal, that involved KII, FGDs with different local level and policy level stakeholders and non-participant observation at the community level. One of my current research involves KII and FGD with policy level stakeholders whereas others are survey and qualitative data collection from the grass root level people. I am also using a new Participatory Video Making technique to collect data where the participants are trained to film, edit and screen their issues to the policy making level themselves and the researcher facilitates the process, this research is “Resilience Policy Making in Nepal: Giving Voice to Communities”. Similarly, I have managed over 50 household surveys through the NGO I work during different baseline, midterm and end of the project surveys, data analysis and reporting, probably surveyed over 15,000 household’s data, analyzed and reported. Therefore, I can claim that I have expertise in qualitative, quantitative and participatory research work as well networking with policy makers, colleagues, government, private and non-government stakeholders.
As I have mentioned above I have worked with over 150 staff that includes managers, support staff and staff on the ground from health, education and livelihoods background. My work has been successful with my mentoring, ability to attract funding, skill of attention to details and line managing of junior colleagues. In my current Post Doc job, I am working with a multidisciplinary team from Nepal and the UK. I am continuously involved in securing about £2 million funding annually for the interventions in Nepal and have started to secure funding for research too.
