Dr Samina Zahir has, for over 20 years, provided a range of specialist support to help drive and facilitate successful cultural/ community projects and related activity that engages communities who are often marginalised.
She has completed research and consultancy projects for over 100 clients, including Arts Council England, Baring Foundation, the British Council, The Design Museum, Paul Hamlyn Foundation, The National Trust and The Space.
Dr Zahir works with organisations who want to widen engagement, a theme reflected in her research, with reports such as ‘Arts and Refugees’ and ‘The Elephant in the Room: research into the African, Asian and Caribbean Visual Arts Sector’, she co-produced Arts Council England’s first epistolary report on the theme of ‘Identity, Aesthetics and Ethnicity’.
With a focus on equality and diversity, Hybrid places artists in everyday settings, effecting change through the research and production of socially engaged work.
Her PhD used action research to explore hyphenated identities, ‘third space’, belonging and cultural connectivity. She is a Fellow of the RSA, currently Interim Chair for Company of Others and has been both Chair and Secretary of the Black History Foundation and an advisor for the Federation of Irish Societies.
