Introduction
Dr Ani Wierenga is a researcher, author and educator with a local and global focus on creating strong and live-able futures, especially with and for younger generations. Enjoying developing the art of the impossible, her early career experiences as youth practitioner shaped her as a strategic thinker and program leader, now equipping others across the higher education industry, government, decision makers and community. As a cross-disciplinary communicator she brings research and practice expertise in young people's wellbeing, learning, engagement, citizenship and active social participation. With a long-standing interest in addressing social inequalities, she has a strong interest in global sustainability, and a passion for communities of practice who work with young people.

Dr Ani Wierenga provides evidence-based advice for organisations in social policy, non-profit organizations, partnerships, research design, program evaluation, participatory methods, organizational learning and education strategy. As a driver of organisational inquiry and planning processes, she is recognised as a thinker who understands the potential in young people, who can help organisations to meet their needs. Projects have included co-leading the national Situation Analysis of Bhutanese Young People for Save the Children US and the Royal Government of Bhutan; co-leading the research for a model of Global Education for the Australian Research Council and Plan International; youth participation and development strategies for government and NGOs; policy and program briefings for government, and appointments to strategic paper preparation / advisory roles for UNESCO. Drawing on her history of combining education industry practices with deep research understanding, and policy-and-strategy-focussed experience, she now supports organisations to address complex challenges in communities.
Inspired by global and local research insights, Ani Wierenga sits on the Executive Board and is Past President (2014-18) of the Youth Research Committee for the International Sociological Association, a global network of youth researchers that spans over 50 countries. She is the author of research books about youth, social change, addressing inequality, inclusive policy, youth participation, and educating for global citizenship.
Dr Ani Wierenga leads the graduate teaching program in Adolescent Health and Wellbeing at the Centre for Adolescent Health, Royal Children's Hospital Melbourne. She co-leads a vibrant cross-disciplinary research team at the University of Melbourne who are interrogating both the science and the art of measuring the impact of an education institution’s work in the world, and tracing the impact of engaged students on their community. Her PhD in Sociology is from University of Tasmania. She co-leads masters teaching in Project Based Policy Analysis and is an Honorary Senior Researcher in the School of Social and Political Sciences at the University of Melbourne.
