Augustine Gyan is a PhD candidate at the Bayreuth International Graduate School of African Studies (BIGSAS), University of Bayreuth. He is interested in understanding the exercise of power in daily struggles over land resource access in gold mining hotspots in Ghana and other mineral resource countries. He has a keen interest in exploring the intricate linkages between natural resource extraction, mining regulations/policies, land governance, resistance, digital and in-person activism, and how they impact the livelihoods and social identity of resource users.
