ESRC funded doctoral researcher, doing a PhD in Social Policy at University of Birmingham. My research examines the possibility of applying Design Thinking in the refugee integration policymaking. Previous studies have examined integration policies, but they have not done so from the perspectives of refugees and host communities. And little has been done to involve these end-users directly in co-designing policies; this research will fill this gap, introducing a new approach to examining integration policies for refugees in the UK through a design thinking approach. It aims to create a deeper understanding of refugee integration systems in the UK at both National and Local levels. The objective is to develop practical policy ideas and recommendations that will support the development of a coordinated and holistic policy for sustainable integration for refugees in the UK. Project Topic: The importance of user-experience in refugee integration policymaking: how can a Design Thinking approach inform a better UK integration policy?

I am the Director of Development for The Childhood Trust, which is London’s child poverty charity. I have responsibility for developing strategic and impact driven high value partnerships with corporates, trusts and foundations and philanthropists. My experience is centred on supporting charities, philanthropists and funders to strengthen their collective impact by working collaboratively. I believe in working with funders and charities to utilise research and employ evidence-based interventions in order to identify sustainable and innovative solutions that are both impactful and scalable. I have both a practical and academic interest in trends in philanthropic giving and in particular how donors engage with philanthropy and conceptualise and measure the effectiveness of their giving. I also have extensive knowledge of strategy, fundraising and development, governance and evaluation. I am currently researching for my PhD at the University of Birmingham in which I seek to examine how high net worth individuals utilise evidence to inform their philanthropy. I am an Associate Fellow of Green Templeton College, University of Oxford, a board member of the Global Fund for Human Rights and I serve on the advisory panel of The Sacred Nature Initiative.
