My work is mainly concerned with the quantitative analysis of poverty with a focus on the early stages of the life course: childhood and youth. Recently I have been doing work on poverty measurement in Low and Middle Income countries, poverty dynamics and the role of the benefit system in supporting poor workers. I have also conducted research on educational attainment, youth transitions, teen gender violence and sex work.

Dr Marta Cristina Azaola is a Lecturer in the Southampton Education School at the University of Southampton. Her areas of interest lie in the fields of sociology of education and education policy. Her work is concerned with educational inequalities, in particular, educational inclusion and exclusion in deprived areas. Sarah is Professor of Autism and Inclusion, and Deputy Head of School (Research & Enterprise) for Southampton Education School, at the University of Southampton. She has significant research experience in disability related projects and particular interests in the use of innovative technologies for children with autism, evidence-based practices in autism, and research ethics relating to children and young people.
