SHORT DESCRIPTION

The use of traditional pharmacopoeia has been applied in the treatment of COVID-19 pandemic. While modern medicine is subject to strict controls and regulations by international standards in the domain of sport, traditional pharmacopoeia is excluded from global anti-doping regulation, threatening the integrity and values of sport protected by the Anti-Doping Convention. Several challenges in terms of the legal, social and medical implications of traditional pharmacopoeia in relation to sport values were addressed and revealed the need to consider the existing institutional framework as well as to create a dedicated platform for reflection and exchange of good practices in response. Accordingly, a pilot regional Task Force and the Ad-Hoc Advisory Group of experts were established in the Arab region. The team was entrusted with the coordination of content creation for the common regional digital platform on traditional pharmacopoeia in the context of sport ethics, integrity and values.
