Jérôme Traoré
President - ECOWAS Court of Justice
Justice Jérôme Traoré has been the President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Court of Justice since June 2016. A Burkina-Faso national, he graduated with a law degree from the University of Lomé (Togo) before joining the Ecole Nationale de la Magistrature of Paris, from which he graduated with distinction. Back in Burkina-Faso, Justice Traoré served as magistrate in various jurisdictions and successively held the positions of judge, first President of the Courts of Appeal of Ouagadougou and Bobo-Dioulasso, and Commissioner of the Deputy Government in the Court of Auditors. He also held the role of deputy judge at the African Intellectual Property Organization (OAPI). Justice Traoré also served as Secretary General of the Ministry of Justice for several years before becoming Minister himself. He has participated in the training of several generations of magistrates in Burkina-Faso. Before holding the position of President of the ECOWAS Court of Justice, Justice Traoré was the Dean of the Court.
