Henry Maina

Regional Director Eastern Africa, ARTICLE19

Henry Maina is the Regional Director ARTICLE 19 Eastern Africa a position he has held since August 2009. He has for the last nine years designed and run programmes and projects on freedom of expression in 14 eastern Africa countries. Specifically, he pioneered safety training programmes in the sub-region. He has run holistic safety and protection projects for journalists in Kenya, South Sudan, Rwanda, somalia, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Tanzania, Djibouti, Burundi. Key among them he has help set up safety coordination platforms for journalists in distress and conducted trainings on safety reaching over 300 journalists. He has run studies on the extent to which journalism training centres in Kenya incorporate safety training in their curriculum. We have also jointly with Association of Media Women in Kenya run a study Women Journalists Digital Securityhttp://amwik.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/Women-Journalist... . He is a Chevening Scholar. He holds a masters of Law degree from University of Warwick, UK. He also holds degrees in mass communication and education.
