World Press Freedom Day 2017

Dr. Ranga Kalansooriya is Director General at the Department of Government Information in Sri Lanka. Previously, he served as Advisor for Asia Pacific Affairs at International Media Support, an international media development organization that works to enable local media to reduce conflict, strengthen democracy and facilitate dialogue. He was also Director-General and Co-founder of the Sri Lanka Press Institute. As a journalist, he worked for the several newspapers in Sri Lanka, including the Daily News where he became the Deputy News Editor in the late 1990s. He holds a PhD in Journalism and served as Fellow at the University of Oxford on a case study for Combating Terrorism and Discussing Peace.
