World Press Freedom Day 2017

Guy Berger is UNESCO’s director for Freedom of Expression and Media Development, based in Paris. He oversees the Organisation’s programmes that promote press freedom and freedom of information, safety of journalists, media pluralism and diversity, and media development.   These activities cover media online and offline, and they also highlight the importance of gender-equality and through media, conflict sensitive journalism, journalism education, and user empowerment via Media and Information Literacy. 

Berger previously headed the School of Journalism and Media Studies at Rhodes University, South Africa.
