Elif Akgül

Freedom of Speech Editor, BIAnet

Elif Akgül is the Freedom of Speech editor at Independent Communication Network’s (BIA) news-portal project bianet.org run by IPS Communication Foundation-Turkey. BIA Project has been implementing and promoting rights-based and peace journalism in Turkey since 2000. 
Elif has been covering the freedom of speech issues – such as journalist trials, censorship and internet freedom- for bianet since 2012. She also takes part at the “Gender Based Reporting Guidebook and Library Project” as a trainer.
Elif studied Film and TV (BA) and is still writing her dissertation on cyberspace at the Istanbul Bilgi University Philosophy and Social Thought Masters Programme. 
Gender studies, cyber issues, media, freedom of speech, genocide studies and popculture are her main areas of interest.
